Downtown Stockton offers a plethora of restaurants; from dining in, or for those in a rush, a more fast paced casual atmosphere. With the different types of cuisines available, where should you go? How much will it hurt your wallet? No matter if you’re on a quick lunch break or hanging out with friends, Downtown Stockton offers many options that won’t break the bank.
Orlando’s Market and Deli
Sandwiches sandwiches and more sandwiches! Orlando’s Market and Deli is becoming a hot spot in downtown Stockton. Friendly staff, affordable and delicious – their food will fill your stomach without breaking the bank.
So imagine one day you casually walk into a liquor store and you notice there’s a tasty aroma in the air. To your surprise, you realize it’s a restaurant. This is similar to Fatboy’s Grill; their bbq take-out only restaurant is located inside Green Frog Liquor Store. From burgers and Tri-tip to hot links and greens, to tilapia and basa. Try their famous Philly cheese steak or shrimp fresh off of the grill. My mouth is already watering.
What make serrano’s unique is it’s outstanding customer service, and sandwiches. If you like a hint of flavor in your sandwich then you will love Serrano’s.
The Kebob & Gyro House
Who doesn’t enjoy a good Kebob or Gyro? The Kebob and Gyro House offers many mouthwatering Mediterranean classics, like the lamb gyro, for a good price, with exceptional customer service. Finish off your combo plate with some baklava. You won’t feel left out if you’re a Vegetarian since they have many tasty meatless items. So don’t let the small restaurant fool you, big things come in small packages.
What separates Puerto Vallarta from their competitors, is not only their quality in food, but their culture packed and family friendly atmosphere. Not to mention that you can customize your order to fit your taste buds. Some may consider it a hole-in-the-wall, but the Mexican food is one of the best. Go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner; you definitely won’t be disappointed. Did I mention that Pozole is served daily?
Trail Coffee Roasters
With a modern twist to it and a mysterious location, Trail Coffee Roasters is truly a local treasure. Don’t let the limited menu fool you; these coffee aficionados have clearly perfected the art of making quality cappuccinos and lattes. Their passion for hot and cold brews is sensed with each sip. With a literal motto of “From the Seed to the Cup,” (they grow their own beans!) it is no secret that specialty coffee is right up their alley!
Papa Urb’s Grill
Combine traditional Filipino food with a Californian vibe and you get Papa Urb’s Grill; “Filipino Food with a Twist.” With a location already in Tracy, Papa Urb’s provides another diverse fusion cuisine to downtown Stockton. Don’t let the lines prevent you from getting your hands on their signature, and most popular dishes–the Sigsig Tacos and Sigsig Fries.
After a hard day at work, there is no better way to destress than happy hour and southern comfort food. French 25 is the best of both worlds with its delicious drinks and southern classics like Shrimp and Grits, Jambalaya and Gumbo. For the more adventurous sink your teeth into the frog legs or alligator.
Nena’s location is beautiful with the waterfront views. With views like that, the chefs obviously don’t get distracted because the food is delicious! Nena’s offers a variety of Mexican food and daily specials. (I would recommend going on Tuesday to grab the Costillas de puerco en salsa verde con nopales, or spare ribs with cactus). But any day is good because all of the food is savory. Maybe grab the Bistec Toluqueno (grilled steak with onions, chorizo, bacon, and cheese) because everything tastes better with bacon; and wash it down with some Horchata.
So maybe this isn’t directly in the immediate downtown area, but it is on the outskirts and quite simply, too good to pass up. Genova Bakery is an Italian Deli, and they also sell their own bread, cheese and delicious meats (nothing like the smell and taste of freshly baked bread). Some consider this to be a hidden gem, but it won’t be for long since their sandwiches are the best in the city. Try their jalapeno cheddar or Focaccia bread or get everything on the menu; it’s that good. There are many different types of meats and breads to make a sandwich out of at Genova, so go find your perfect combination.
